Indonesia Kenya, there are 9 size grades, and 10 classes for quality. AA would be the largest beans, and 1 represents the highest quality beans.
Another term used when grading beans is "peaberry". Normal coffee cherries have 2 seeds or beans in each fruit. Some plants produce only a single bean, which is considered higher quality and is usually quite a bit larger than the usual beans. Peaberry coffee is priced higher than other grades. Here are some of the popular grades from Kenya
- Washed AA faq plus - Screen 17 and 18. Grown along the foothills of Mount Kenya with perfect climate, altitude, deep red volcanic soil, production and processing methods. These beans have the absolute perfect balance of body and acidity with that extra richness and intense black-currant flavor, and are often rated Class 1 or 2 out of the 10 different classification ratings set by the Coffee Board of Kenya.
- Washed AA faq - Screen 17 and 18. Slightly less flavored than above beans with regular Fair Average Quality (FAQ).
- Washed AB faq plus - Screen 15 and 16 (Over 6.80mm), grown under the same conditions as above except for smaller size of the bean, has slightly lower intensity of the flavor. Yet, this bean has a longer shelf life over AA bean.
- Washed Kenya AB faq - Screen 15 and 16, grown under the same conditions as above. Lots from different estates are blended to achieve flavor.
- Washed Kenya C - Screen 14 and 16), grown under the same conditions as above. Smaller size, lower chemical compounds make it lower flavor than the above grades. Class 4 or 5.
- Unwashed Kenya Grade MH - Screen 15 and 17, Pulp is not removed by the wet process. There are a few defects and the cup quality is earthy, and rated as Class 7.

Unwashed Kenya Grade ML - Screen 12 and 15, lots of broken and black beans. The cup quality is earthy, unreliable and would be between Class 8 and 9.
